Nowadays, many schools find it profitable to sell unhealthy food and sugary drinks to students during lunch breaks. Is this a positive or negative development? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.
Educational Institutions, these days have started a new business by introducing the concept of the canteen which offers junk food during lunchtime and attracts more and more students. In my opinion, this is a negative development that can lead to serious health issues such as obesity and create an impact on the overall eating habits of the children.
Â
One of the major issues related to eating in the school canteen that selling high calorie foodstuffs is that it affects the physic of the students and thus they become overweight at a very tender age it can further lead to increase in the level of cholesterol in their body and hence creates a higher risk of a heart attack. Moreover, students are likely to feel restless during the school hours which reduces the concentration level, thereby impacting their overall performance. For instance, cold drinks that are quite common among kids these days and have become a style quotient contains an excessive level of sugar which when consumed almost every day causes serious problems such as diabetes etc. Also, these drinks destroys bones present in the body as they tend to soften them over a period of time.
Â
Another issue is that due to regular consumption of unhealthy meal offered at school premises impacts the overall eating habits of the children, and therefore they avoid eating healthy food even at home and keep on skipping their meals which leads to deterioration in their health and invites a lot of issues such as loss of memory power, energy etc. In such situations, parents become helpless as their children do not want to eat meal prepared at home as they find it tasteless and in the end parents are forced to make food which may not be healthy at all but they do not have any option apart from listening to their children.
Â
Â
In conclusion, the school must create awareness among the children so that they can avoid consumption of unhealthy food and eat a balanced diet that is good for their physical and mental development. This is possible only if these institutions stop making money at the cost of the health of the children.
